Today, I am sharing my patterns for the small loopy crochet flower appliques that I made to go on the little preemie headbands that I made to donate to Valley Children’s NICU.
I made a simple flower and a deluxe flower to go on the headbands. The simple flower looks pretty by itself or paired with one or two more on a headband, in the same or coordinating colors. The deluxe flower is nice to use just by itself, as it is a bit larger.
One of the things I love about these flowers, besides how easy they are to make, is that they allow you to get creative with colors. They use very little yarn, so the small loopy flowers make a great stash-buster for your small bits of cotton yarn.
Go ahead and get started making them, now. You will want a collection ready to go when I start sharing my preemie headband patterns!
Simple Loopy Crochet Flower
(approx. 1 1/2 inches in diameter)

Size F crochet Hook
Worsted weight 100% cotton yarn (2 colors)
Pattern:
Round 1: (Flower center)With color A, ch 2, sc 6 in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first sc.
Round 2: (Petals) Switch to color B. Beginning in same stitch as join, [ch 5, sl st in same sc, sl st in next sc] repeat around, working last petal in the joining sl st of the flower center. The final sl st joins to the same st as the first petal.
Finish off and weave in ends.
Optional: when working the flower center, you may form your beginning slip knot a few inches in to the yarn, leaving a tail. When finishing off, you may leave another tail. The tails are great for attaching the flowers to headbands.
